What is an FD calculator?

An FD calculator is a simple tool that helps you estimate how much interest you will earn on your fixed deposit and what the total maturity amount will be at the end of the tenure. It speeds up calculations and reduces manual errors when comparing different FD options.

This FD calculator works for most Indian bank fixed deposits. You can change the FD amount, interest rate, tenure and compounding frequency to match the FD scheme offered by your bank.

How to use this FD calculator

Follow these steps to calculate your fixed deposit maturity value:

  • Enter your FD amount (deposit amount) in rupees.
  • Enter the interest rate (% p.a.) offered by your bank for the selected tenure.
  • Enter the tenure in years and additional months (for example, 5 years 6 months).
  • Select the compounding frequency – most bank FDs compound quarterly or monthly.
  • Choose Cumulative if you want interest to be reinvested (higher maturity), or Regular payout if you plan to withdraw interest periodically.
  • Click on “Calculate FD maturity” to see interest earned and total maturity amount.

FD interest formula (simple & compound)

Most bank FDs in India use compound interest. For a principal amount \(P\), annual interest rate \(r\), compounding frequency \(n\) and time in years \(t\), the maturity amount \(A\) is:

\(A = P \times \left(1 + \frac{r}{100 \times n}\right)^{n \times t}\)

Simple interest FD schemes use: \(A = P \times \left(1 + \frac{r \times t}{100}\right)\). The calculator above switches between these formulas based on your compounding choice.

Example FD maturity amounts

The table below shows example maturity values for a ₹1,00,000 cumulative FD at different interest rates and tenures (assuming quarterly compounding). These are for illustration only and may differ from your bank’s official figures.

FD amount Interest rate Tenure Approx. maturity
₹1,00,000 6.50% p.a. 1 year ₹1,06,687 (approx.)
₹1,00,000 7.25% p.a. 3 years ₹1,24,000 (approx.)
₹1,00,000 7.75% p.a. 5 years ₹1,45,000 (approx.)
